The beautiful lakes of Fermanagh are famous around the world. From angling and cruising to all kinds of water sports the locals make good use of them too. Aside from the historic town of Enniskillen, the county is mainly rural with a number of attractive small towns and villages, such as Lisnaskea, Newtownbutler, Irvinestown and Lisbellaw.
The two connected lakes, Upper and Lough Erne, comprise much of the county and nowhere is very far from water. Enniskillen itself is a traditional Ulster town with a famous castle, charming high street and some desirable period properties. It is, however, the only population centre of any significance in Fermanagh, the options being the small town of Lisnaskea or a series of villages in rural surroundings.
